About the Law Society Precedents

The Law Society Precedents (except for the Personal Injury suite) were developed by TressCox Lawyers, who also fully maintain them for the Society. The Personal Injury suite was originally developed by Stacks / The Law Firm, and is now maintained by TressCox Lawyers, with editorial input by Carroll and O'Dea Lawyers.

The Law Society Precedents can be downloaded quickly and simply via the Society's website at http://www.lawsociety.com.au/precedents/ by entering your Precedents login and password. From this secure site you will be able to:

  • Download the suites and updates you have purchased
  • Print out hard copies
  • View the suites for which you are licensed
  • Search, browse and download individual Precedent updates for which you are licensed whenever you want and wherever you are; and
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest updates and keep track of what Precedents and updates you have downloaded.

Specifications and hard copy

The Precedents are available in Microsoft Word 6 and above for PCs. Apple Macintosh users must have Office software compatible with Microsoft Office. The print font (or typeface) used in the Law Society Precedents is Times New Roman.

Firms can print the hard copy from their computer.To make the printed copies more presentable and easy to file, you can purchase Law Society Precedent binders (including specially printed tab dividers and spine cards). Please contact the Precedent Administrator – 9926 0278 to place your order.

Index to Precedent Suites

For your convenience the index to each Precedent suite, as well as the order form, are on the Law Society's website at http://www.lawsociety.com.au/precedents/.

Maintenance

To keep the Precedents up to date you need to take out maintenance. Firms that have paid their annual maintenance will receive their updates as soon as the amendments have been made. Notification of updates is sent by email advising firms to download.

How much do the Precedents cost?

  • The licence fee for each Precedent suite depends on its complexity and the number of users. The licence and maintenance fees are shown following each suite listing.

* Note: The annual maintenance fee is mandatory for this offer. When maintenance is up for renewal, the firm will be invoiced for the number of solicitors who are employed at the firm at the time of renewal.

To purchase the Law Society Precedents

To order your Law Society Precedents simply:

  • Complete the online order form and return it to the Law Society.
  • A licence agreement will then be forwarded from the Society.
  • Sign and return the licence agreement to the Society, together with payment – either a cheque for the necessary amount, including the maintenance fee if required, or your credit card details.
  • You will then receive a log-in and password to access the Precedents.
